Join Our Board of Trustees and Help Shape the Future of Specialist Education

MacIntyre Academies Trust is seeking exceptional individuals to join its Board of Trustees and contribute to the continued success and strategic growth of our specialist academies. This is an exciting opportunity to support the life-changing work of our schools, which serve children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) across Oxfordshire and Warwickshire.
About MacIntyre Academies
Established in 2014 by the national charity MacIntyre, the Trust currently supports approximately 290 learners aged 7 to 19 with complex needs including autism spectrum conditions (ASC) and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) difficulties. Our vision is clear: for all young people to have confidence in their potential, to be ready for a successful adult life, and to feel connected in their communities.
Guided by our core values — Compassion, Ambition, and Partnership — our schools provide inclusive, nurturing and therapeutic learning environments that allow every learner to thrive.
Trustee Opportunities
With a clear strategic plan in place, including the opening of two new academies by 2027, MacIntyre Academies is entering a significant phase of growth. We are now seeking new Trustees to strengthen our Board and bring insight, expertise, and governance support as we continue to expand our impact.
We are particularly interested in appointing Trustees with experience in the following areas:
-
Finance and Audit – Senior financial leadership and oversight experience, ideally in roles such as Finance Director, CFO, or Audit Partner.
-
HR and People – Experience leading HR strategy and workforce development, ideally at Director level.
-
Education and Safeguarding – Experience in school improvement, safeguarding and curriculum development at a senior level (e.g. Headteacher, Director of Education).
We welcome applications from individuals with or without prior board experience, including first-time non-executives, provided they bring relevant expertise and a strong commitment to our mission.
Time Commitment and Term
This is a voluntary, unremunerated role with reasonable travel expenses reimbursed. Trustees are appointed for an initial four-year term. The time commitment is up to one day per month, including preparation and attendance at six annual Board meetings (some of which will be in-person, typically held in London). Trustees are also expected to sit on at least one committee and undertake one annual school visit.
